Project Overview

During the second semester of my freshman year of college, a friend and I built a controllable 40% scale R2-D2 from the franchise Star Wars.

The R2D2 we built used pre-modeled parts from a build we found interesting online. We were able to get all of the plastic parts printed via a makerspace on campus. For post-processing, all of the visible prints were sanded, primed, spray painted, and coated with protection paint.

Electrically, we used an Arduino to send code. We used a servo bus to control the servos and LEDs in the Dome and leg assembly. To control the R2D2, we used serial communication via a laptop to deploy different features such as dome head movement and front leg retraction.
